DVS was featured in an article published by the Contra Costa Times in the Concord Transcript on Thursday, February 22, 2001 titled, "When traditional school is too restrictive, there's an alternative." A similar version of the same article appeared in the Times' Walnut Creek Journal on the same day.

DVS was featured in Gary Bogue's column in the Contra Costa Times on Thursday, June 6, 2002 titled, "Schoolkids taught early to treat pets with respect."
